Kindergarten

Check out that handsome boy!  Drew started Kindergarten on July 30th - we are on a year round calendar here.  I'm so behind on blogs that as I post this, Drew is enjoying his first week of a three week track out.  The first quarter flew by!  He truly loves school, always sharing fun stories and raving about the "specials" (called electives when I was in school).  His favorite is library which tickles me because I was certain it would be P.E.  He loves that too and all the others.  A cute story on specials - the third day of school he was telling me about his day and I asked what special he went to.  He replied, "It's too hard to explain Mom."  When I pressed him, he said it again with an annoyed tone, "Mom, if I could explain it I would but I can't."  Well, come to find out it was "Counseling."  Had to hand that one to Drew - how does a five year old explain counseling?  Sounds like the counselor meets with the whole class and discusses topics like bullying and safety.  George and I are pretty impressed with what Drew learned in the first quarter.  He is writing quite a bit and loves it.  I don't always recognize the words since they write phonetically but he is quick to bring me up to speed.  He's doing some cool math work and projects too.  A favorite was our family tree.  I went to the first quarter conference with his teacher last week and all is well.  I was kind of nervous to go!  Like all parents, I want to hear good things so I was anxious to find out how Drew is doing.  Ms. Shaffer said he is right on track and is a "joy to have in class."  He chats with his friends a little too much but hey, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree so what can I expect.

Road Trip South - Seeing Friends

The fun didn't stop after Jamie's wedding.  While we were near the coast, we took the chance to spend a couple of days with wonderful friends.  We spent an afternoon with dear friends we met while I was working for the New Orleans Hornets.  Then, we spent two days at my best friend Angel's house, enjoying every minute.  Angel, Walt, Andrew and Nathan have a beautiful home in Ocean Springs, MS.  It felt like a true vacation.  They shouldn't have treated us so well cause now we want to go back :)  We relaxed by the pool, went boating, ate lots of good food and most importantly spent tons of quality time together.  Thanks for being such wonderful hosts!! XOXO

Dear friends we met at the Hornets - Nathan, Jessica,
Cristina and Ward.

Cristina and I with Melanie and her
baby bump.  Alexander Hawk Wyatt has
been born since this pic and is oh so cute!

It was so good to see Ward and Melanie.

Cristina with some of the kids.

On to Ocean Springs - Lovin' life at Angel's resort.

Nathan got his turtles out to swim in the pool.  Drew thought
that was the absolute coolest thing ever!

Turtle races :)

Horn Island!  So many wonderful memories took place there.
It's where Angel and I became friends (my Dad and her Dad
were working together and we invited them boating.)  Horn
Island is located a few miles off the coast of Biloxi/Ocean Springs and is only
accessible by private boat so it stays pretty low key.  The
beach and water are every bit as beautiful as the Florida gulf
coast and you are almost always guaranteed a close up with
some sea creatures.  In this pic a couple of dolphins swim by
not far from where George and the boys were swimming.

Everybody loves Angel!  David cried for her
the entire 12 hours home!

Horseshoe crab.

Tuckered out on the ride back.

Drew too.

Love Angel and Walt's bean bag boating chairs (well, I love
one of them) - purple and gold for Angel and blue and orange for Walt.

Road Trip South - Jamie's Wedding!!!

We hit the road July 19th to head south to Hattiesburg, MS for Jamie and Ty's wedding.  Whoo hoo!  It was the start of a very fun trip!  Jamie is my cousin and I love her dearly.  I was beyond honored when she asked me a few months ago to be her matron of honor.  The good news kept on coming because she also asked Whitley to be a flower girl and Drew and David to be ring bearers!  The boys were excited but I have to admit, I was probably the most thrilled of all!  I couldn't help but picture their cute little selves all dressed up and George and I the proud parents.  Of course, I also couldn't help but picture them being disruptive or loud or not doing what they were asked to do.  Thus began the endless rehearsals for Jamie and Ty's wedding!  Luckily, nobody loves make-believe more than Drew so he was always game for practice.  And what Drew does, David happily does as well so we regularly walked the hall upstairs, pillows in hand.  Drew would usually get his "wedding clothes" on which consisted of a button up shirt, tie, and raincoat (closest thing to a man's sport coat that he owns).  Drew was actually perturbed with Jamie about his wedding attire.  He couldn't understand why my dress came in the mail and he had to wait to pick his up in Hattiesburg.  Even after explaining that it was being rented, he said, "Well, it wasn't very nice of Jamie to do that."  She and I laughed about it and once he got the suit and saw how dapper he was in it, all was forgotten.  In addition to practicing their walk down the aisle, I regularly reminded them that they had to be on their absolute best behavior at the wedding.  I explained how important a wedding day is to the bride and groom and that it would very upsetting to be remembered as the kids who ruined Jamie's wedding.  I may have gone a little overboard but the kids did GREAT and were perfectly behaved.  I did crack up when Drew asked at the wedding "Is this supposed to be the best day of my life too?"  I probably put too much pressure on him when I mentioned that Jamie and Ty's wedding day is very exciting for them and we only want to contribute to the good memories they will have.  Drew was relieved to hear that he would have his own "best day" someday although I'm sure that one did rank pretty high!  He (David and Whitley too) danced all night and stayed up till 11 (midnight our time).  It was a wonderful wedding - Jamie was absolutely stunning, the food and drinks were plentiful and delicious, the band fantastic, and the people superb.  I miss the other bridesmaids so much.  I was so sad to say goodbye after getting to know them at the bachelorette and wedding weekends.

I guess I skipped around a bit so back to the road trip...  We had a surprisingly pleasant drive to MS.  We got on the road around 5am with plans to stop in Atlanta for a couple of hours, maybe do a museum or something.  The kids were doing so well by the time we got there that we decided to make a quick stop and then keep trucking.  We were keeping in touch with my parents and the Watson's who were riding together and the timing worked out well to stop in Tuscaloosa and pig out at The Original Dreamland BBQ together.  That's where David showed us all exactly how much he loves ribs.  Whoa!  We were worried that his wedding suit would be too big but after that meal it was a perfect fit.  From there it was on to Hattiesburg.  We checked in the hotel in the early evening and got to see Jamie and cousin Matt that night.  The next day was busy with a bridal luncheon and rehearsal.  I got to spend the day of the wedding getting ready with Jamie and the other bridesmaids.  George found a kids jump place, took the boys to lunch and then started getting them ready.  I was most impressed when they walked in (on time!) looking super handsome and happy.  Points for George!  My Mom was a big help at the hotel too :)  It was picture time once everyone arrived and then the big day!!!!  As everyone always says about weddings, it went by way too fast!  Thank you Jamie and Ty for inviting our family to be a part of your special day.  We are so very, very happy for you and love you tons!

Bridal luncheon.  Sweet Jamie showered us with gifts!

Cuties at the wedding rehearsal.

It's not often we get a photo of the four of us.  I love this one.

Getting ready for the big event!!!

My handsome boys all dressed up.

Had to make time to get some sillies out :)

We took lots of shots on the golf course - so pretty.

July 4th and Drew's Extended Vacation

We made our way to Myrtle Beach for the long weekend over July 4th.  It was a great time.  My parents recently joined a boat club so in addition to lots of time spent on the beach, we got to go boating twice as well.  Another treat of the trip was a July 4th golf cart parade in the Long Bay Club where Day Day, CC and Me-Ma live.  They don't own a golf cart but one of the neighbors does and he was out of town.  Lucky us - he let us borrow it and he had some decorations from the prior year.  Mom got a few more and voila, we were ready to go!  The boys enjoyed the ride and us adults enjoyed the patriotic tunes we were blaring.  Happy 4th!!!  Drew was lucky and got to stay in Myrtle Beach with his grandparents for a whole extra week!  Drew was off in July since he finished up at the Children's Campus the end of June and started Kindergarten July 30th.  During his week in Myrtle Beach, he went back and forth between Me-Ma's and Day Day/CC's house, packing his little suitcase each morning.  It was very sweet that he made sure to split his time, determined to be "fair" he said.  He was spoiled of course - lots of fun outings to the beach, stores, movies, miniature golf.  He already can't wait till his first track out in October when he will return to Grandparent camp.

Gathering with the other carts.

A few other carts.

Drew loves being Captain with Day Day.

MagiQuest!  CC and Me-Ma took Drew to this super
special treat!  MagiQuest is an interactive fantasy game
where the kids use wands to solve mysteries and such.  It's kind
of like a massive scavenger hunt.  Me-Ma and CC said it was
overwhelming, Drew said it rocked!

The wand was fun in itself.

They found a splash pad after MagiQuest.

Day Day took Drew to a pirate store.  Wow - a whole store
filled with pirate stuff.  Drew didn't have any trouble finding
things he "needed" and they got a few things for David as well.

Miniature golf.  He got to go twice! Once with
Me-Ma and again with Me-Ma and CC.

Big thanks to the Grandparents for having Drew!  He had a blast on his vacation and will proudly share every detail to anyone that will listen.
