Honest Drew

It's Friday night and I'm trying to recall what we did this week. Whitley came over on Monday while Cristie and Tom went to a movie. I enjoyed playing with her while Drew napped and then we all had fun together when Drew woke up. I couldn't believe how quickly Drew jumped out of his bed when he heard her voice in his bedroom! He was so excited to see her and wanted to hog her, leaving me out! He kept asking me to leave the room so just he and her could play. Drew plays by himself a lot but I was reluctant to leave them alone since Drew can be rough with her even when he doesn't mean to be and Whitley is a little young to play unsupervised. Drew closed the door at one point and after a few seconds I heard Whitley cry. I went right back in and found her sitting on the floor crying. I asked Drew what happened and he said, "I closed the door on you Mommy and Whitley tried to open the door so I held her and she fell and she is crying." It made me laugh a bit (after I made sure Whitley was fine of course!) because Drew is so honest these days! He is such a talker and can tell me word for word what has happened while I'm away. It's really neat when we have babysitters or if he plays with a friend. It's not just when we are away of course, we constantly get a kick out of the things he recalls and tells us about. Today I had a hard time putting Drew down for his nap because we had a big day at the pool and he was overtired. When he woke up from his nap at 6pm George went to get him. The first thing he said was, "Daddy, I'm in big trouble. Mommy put me in my bed and I got up to get my toys and she came in and she showed me her mad face and then I showed her my sad face and she took my toys and they are in the hallway." I couldn't have recalled it better myself! Of course he wasn't still in trouble and I gave him extra kisses for being so darn cute and funny! So besides watching Whitley on Monday and going to the pool Thursday and Friday, we also went to the library and did lots of playing at home while I continued to work on house stuff. I'm slowing but surely checking things off the to-do list! I even have an ugly burn mark on my arm to prove it that I got while ironing curtains. I detest that job!

Whitley enjoyed Uncle George's play dough creatures just as much as Drew does! They just finished making a shark.
Drew flips through one of his selections at the library. We continue to enjoy going there. The teacher commented this week that Drew is always so attentive and sweet sitting in the very front. I was proud!

Reading the library books as soon as we got home from the library. It's amazing how quickly Drew memorizes the books. By bedtime that night, he was calling out the titles in the order in which he wanted me to read them. I could barely recall what we checked out!

Drew in Baby Davis's car seat :) Boy how he's grown in 2 1/2 years!!! Drew watched me clean it and asked if he could try it out. He immediately said, "I'm too big. Baby brother can fit in it." He talks more and more about baby brother every day! It's so fun!

Is it Monday Yet?

Typically our weekends are relaxing but this weekend was so busy that I'm actually looking forward to a laid back Monday. Our weekend was really fun, filled with two kids birthday parties and a great evening with friends on Saturday night! Now that Drew's asleep and George and I are getting settled and ready to watch Entourage, we realize how tired we are. We celebrated Griffin's 1st birthday on Saturday and Logan's 2nd birthday on Sunday. Happy birthday boys!
Reading books with Grandma. Drew was so excited about the books he got at baby brother's shower that he had Judy read them over and over again on Monday.
Making fancy snakes and other fun play dough things with Daddy!

Happy face!
Getting a good view of the birthday cake at Griffin's 1st birthday party on Saturday.
In the fun pool with Whitley at Logan's party. Drew's eyes are closed but he is smiling so the picture is good enough to post. Sometimes I'm desperate to find pictures decent enough to share.
Kissing sweet Whitley!

Big smile!

Celebrating Baby Davis To-Be!

Some wonderful friends and neighbors hosted a beautiful baby shower for me and Baby Davis t0-be on Sunday afternoon. I was in awe of their creativity and hard work! It was a beach themed shower decorated in orange and blue. I just loved it! When guests walked in they were asked to pick a pair of flip flops in their size for a fun craft. We all gathered around a table and decorated our flip flops, it was a really cute idea! Then I had to judge who had the best pair. All 25 pairs were adorable so it was hard to choose. The food was delicious and coordinated with the theme. We filled up on chicken skewers, shrimp skewers, salads and fruits. The cupcakes were something out of a magazine! We all told my friend Sharma she should open a cupcake business, her talent is really something. Baby Davis got some wonderful gifts, as did big brother Drew. It was so sweet of people to think of him as well! I was so honored by the shower and I'm very thankful for such wonderful friends! As for the pregnancy, everything is going very well! The baby is no longer in the breach position and my placenta is no longer too low for a regular delivery. Therefore, a c-section isn't needed and we'll just wait for Baby Davis to arrive when he's ready! We're so excited! I'm a little over 36 weeks along so we only have about four to go. Oh my goodness!

With Kristen and the "It's a Boy" martini glass she gave me. I enjoyed the yummy punch that I was drinking but I'm looking forward to filling it up with the real thing in a few weeks!
Guests signed the invitation and it was framed for me to keep. It's so pretty!

The utensils were wrapped in little napkin diapers and clipped with a diaper pin. So cute!

Adorable cupcakes that my friend Sharma made! Mine was the one with the baby crab :)

Making flip flops. Such a cute idea! They had tons of ribbon, buttons, flowers, and other fun stuff for decorating.
Unwrapping gifts. This was a soft lovey from Judy.
A cute "Property of Mom" onesie. Sooooo tiny!
Definitely one of my favorites gifts! I just can't wait for Drew's little brother to get here so they can wear these shirts!!!

Mae Mae's Boat!

We had a grand time boating on Jordan Lake with Aunt Mary and Uncle Ralph today! Drew calls the boat "Mae Mae's boat" which my Aunt Mary adores! He was so excited to go today and remembered right away that his favorite thing to do on Mae Mae's boat is swim in the water. He loved to kick around in his life vest and swim back and forth between Aunt Mary and Uncle Ralph. The weather was perfect as we enjoyed cruising around the lake, watching Mae Mae ski, and Uncle Ralph and George wake board. We also had a yummy picnic dinner. It was such a relaxing day and we enjoyed every minute of it! When we pulled back to the dock, Drew said "I had a good day!" and he was absolutely right! Thanks Mae Mae and Uncle Ralph!
Drew and I on Mae Mae's boat. He does a good job of hiding my huge belly!
Swimming with Mae Mae! Every time the boat stopped he wanted to get in the water with Mae Mae! She was so sweet and did it every time!
Uncle Ralph acts like a shark while Drew and Mae Mae laugh!
George wake boarding! He was awesome, you would never know it's been 4 years since he did it last. Drew thought it was so cool to see his Daddy "skateboard on water!"

Captain Drew!
He's so proud of himself! Sitting with Mae Mae, the only place he wanted to be!

Checking out Mae Mae's yummy picnic spread! She even had a tablecloth!
Waving to the other boats, Drew thought this was big fun!
Heading back to the dock. What a fun day!

Drew's New Room!

We've had a busy week getting Drew's new room squared away. We've been talking to him about it for quite sometime so he was prepared for the move but George and I were still nervous that the transition may not go well. I spent a couple of days moving his clothes and other things to the new room and getting some baby stuff put into the nursery. Then when Drew got out of the bath last night we took him to his new room to get ready for bed. He saw his lovey in there and never looked back! He jumped right in the bed and pretty much went to sleep instantly. There are toys in his new room, unlike the previous room, so we wondered if he would just get up and play but so far he hasn't. He got up once to get a car off of the train table but went right back to bed to cuddle the car. Drew likes his new room and calls it his "blue pirate ship room!" due to the ships wheel headboard. Aunt Cristie was here today and he proudly showed his new room to her! The furniture was George's as a child which is super sweet! We love having it and thank Judy for passing it on to Drew!
Drew giving me a bright smile!
Lovin' life at the pool, one of our favorite things to do this summer. It's actually somewhat relaxing since Drew isn't near as wild as he was last year at the pool. He mostly stays in the shallow end playing with his toys or asks me to swim with him in the "deep water."
Drew's new twin bed! We used nautical flag designs to spell "DREW" with canvases. George's idea, pretty cute! My contribution was the painting :)

Playing with his trains in his new room. We thought the toys would be a problem at night time and nap time but so far, so good!
I still need to get some knick-knacks for his bookshelves but other than that, the room is complete!

Remembering Dixie

A week ago our beloved family dog, Dixie, went to heaven. She was an amazing dog and brought so much joy to our family for over 16 years! She spent her last 20 months of life in Hattiesburg, MS with my sweet Aunt Kim, one of the biggest dog lovers in the world. Dixie's health was deteriorating quickly and the bitter winters in Minnesota where Mom and Dad live were too much for her. With the tender loving care of Aunt Kim, Uncle Dreg and their wonderful Vet and friend, Keith, Dixie lived much longer in Hattiesburg than any of us expected. She recently became ill again and it was decided that she would be put to sleep. Nobody could stand to see her suffer. Dixie was pretty much a perfect dog! She always listened and obeyed, never needing a leash. She was playful, sweet, pretty, soft and cuddly. She was so happy sitting on the porch with Daddy during happy hour, eagerly awaiting a bone or some other treat. She rarely missed a day on the boat with us. As soon as we threw the anchor out and started heading for the beach, she would jump out of the boat and swim as fast as her little legs would carry her. And when it was time to pack up in the evening, she would swim back to the boat as soon as the first beach chair was packed. She was always afraid of being left behind, like any of us would let that happen! She became my parents world when Cristie and I went to college. I remember calling home to see how things were going and my parents only talked about Dixie. Becoming empty nesters would have been much more difficult without sweet Dixie. We have so many fond memories of her and she will always have a special place in our hearts! We love you Dixie!
One last kiss from Sweet Aunt Kim!

Doing one of her favorite things, chewing on a bone! Daddy always spoiled Dixie with people food.

Happy 4th of July!

We had one of the busiest weeks ever after returning from our Myrtle Beach trip. Drew had a birthday party for his buddy Blake on Sunday. It was a pizza and movie party and although Drew had a blast and enjoyed seeing "Up," he fell asleep the last few minutes of the movie. He was tuckered out from our week at the beach. The rest of the week was crazy due to painters being here. We've wanted to paint some rooms of our home since we moved in and finally got around to it. It was a big job so we hired professionals. It's a good thing we did because it took them four full days to do it, I can't imagine how long it would have taken George and I! Drew and I tried to get out of their way most of the time so spent much of the week out and about. That was exhausting for me as running errands in the summer heat with a 36 pound kid gets less and less fun! When we were at home, Drew was obsessed with watching the painters ("his friends" as he called them!). He was amazed at the twenty foot pole they used to get our foyer and watched from George's office with a huge grin! He waved and said "Hi, good job guys!" over and over. They were sweet as can be to him! Drew is super excited about his new blue room (I'll upload photos soon) and George and I are eager to move him in there so we can get the nursery ready - Baby Davis's arrival is fast approaching! Today we celebrated the 4th of July with a neighborhood bash. Drew was beyond thrilled with a huge water slide they had. He had to climb a high wall to get there but didn't mind one bit. He never got tired of it! Most kids would play for a bit and then move on to something else but our boy played on it for four hours straight, never taking a break for food or anything else. He must have gone down the slide 100 times at least. He finally took a break after 9pm when they started the fireworks and then we were able to talk him into going home after that. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow and I'm not far behind him. George went back to help clean up (I think he really just wanted to help kill the keg!) Have a fun and safe 4th of July!

Standing behind the birthday boy! Happy 6th birthday Blake!
With Lauren at the movies.
Asleep in the movies! Poor Drew was worn out from our vacation!
Little slugger! Drew adores baseball and he's quite good if you don't mind my bragging! He can hit really well and throw well too. He's not too hot with catching yet so that's what we were working on.
Drew's ready!
Playing in the backyard with Lauren. They moved our little slide to the pool and had a blast! Guess hitting bricks on your bottom doesn't hurt with a diaper on.
Daddy gives Drew a boost. It was a high wall!
Coming down!
No help needed anymore!
"Look at me!" He was so proud!
