July 4th Weekend

4th of July weekend was a great one around here. Well, actually the weekend started off with some heavy duty yard work. All four us worked in the yard Friday evening. George usually does all of the yard work (and a great job he does I might add!) but the bushes needed trimming and weeds needed pulling so we all chipped in to help. The boys were adorable in their "working gloves" and were so eager to help. David got so much accomplished! We were very impressed. His monkey see, monkey do attitude really comes in handy sometimes :) He perfectly imitated everything Drew and I did, resulting in a bag full of trimmings. Everyone was rewarded with ice cream! I enjoyed a girls afternoon on Saturday. Some friends and I bought a Groupon to a bead shop for a necklace-making class. We had a great time making our necklaces and an even better time prolonging our outing with a stop at Fosters for wine and snacks. Sunday was an awesome day...boating with the Gundies!!! It is definitely one of our highlights of the summer every year. We took David too this time and all had an absolute blast. We swam, wake boarded, enjoyed the beautiful scenery and Drew got to go tubing for the first time! Would you believe he loved it from the first second? After enjoying a really long ride, I finally leaned over to Uncle Ralph, our captain, and said that he could stop. I knew Drew would never call it quits. All Drew could say when we pulled him to the boat was, "What happened?" He did not want his turn to end. We decided to let him go ahead and tube one more time and then we deflated the tube. Otherwise, Drew would have hogged the day! Our little plan worked and Drew moved on to cheering for the wake boarders. Of course he did ask many times if he could wake board. I made up a number and told him you have to be ten years old to do it. He looked at me very serious and asked, "Well, is Melanie ten?" It was hysterical. Sweet Melanie is 24. We also did lots of swimming throughout the day. That was David's favorite. He bobbed around in his life vest and was happy as can be. Oh, there is a funny story about the life vest. The day before we went on the boat I wanted to make sure the life vest would fit David. When I tried to put it on him he quickly moved and said, "No." So I put it on Drew and made a comment about going on Mae Mae's boat soon. David changed his tune immediately and started hollering, "Me! My vest! Me! My vest! Pleeeeaaase!!!!" Works every time :) I actually had to peel the thing off of David two hours later for nap time. Thank you Gundies for inviting us on your boat and for such a fantastic day!!! After a great day boating we came home for a quick shower and change before George and I went out to dinner with some friends. It was such a fun night. Our pregnant friend Ashley let us pile in her car so we wouldn't have to worry about driving. We all had a blast and definitely owe Ashley a ride next time she's up for it! By the time July 4th rolled around we were all pretty tired. We went to the pool for a couple of hours and then had a relaxing afternoon at home. There was a neighborhood get-together planned for the evening but some pretty yucky storms rolled in. By the time the weather cleared and things got going we were already half way into the boys' bedtime routine. George and I watched some fireworks on TV and called it a night. Lame, I know! We'll do better next year.

We had an awesome night out with friends. Four couples went to dinner and enjoyed hours of good stories and laughs.

Drew was so pumped about this "rock radio" we saw at the mall. He asked me to take a picture of him standing on it because as he said, "Nobody will believe this rock plays music!"

With Daddy too!

David takes a Goldfish break with sweet Mae Mae.

Swimming, a favorite for everyone.

Little David loved it!
