Well, where do I begin? We have been on an emotional roller coaster since May 27
th. The last two and half weeks have been the scariest of my life. My sweet Daddy had surgery on the 27
th to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Cristie and I flew to MN to be with Mom and Dad for the surgery despite their insistent requests to stay home. Boy, are we glad we went! Although the surgery was successful and the aneurysm was repaired, Daddy suffered from post operative delirium; meaning he didn't wake up afterward. It was ten very long days before he woke up and those ten days are indescribable for those of us that love Dad so dearly. Cristie and I were in MN a week before coming home to see our hubbies and kids. It was wonderful to be back with the boys but it felt awful not to be by Daddy's side. It was a tug-of-war between being a Mom and being a daughter. I wanted to be both places so badly. Thankfully, Dad finally woke up on Sunday the 6
th and the nightmare started coming to an end. I had a flight back to MN on Monday the 7
th and it was amazing to arrive knowing that I could hug and kiss Daddy and he could hug and kiss me in return! It was a busy few days before flying home on Friday. Daddy has made a miraculous recovery thus far, he has even been discharged from the hospital. He has a long road ahead of him but seems to be doing well so far. Things at home went pretty smoothly while I was away. Judy came to help George with the boys both times I was gone...she's an angel! It also seems that George has a little more appreciation for my "job" because on day 2 of the first trip, he said, "I don't know how you do this all day, everyday!"
Hee hee. He was Super Dad and even a fantastic house keeper. I came home to a sparkling home both times! We also had many friends that helped by keeping Drew busy. He is quite the Mama's boy and didn't like me being gone one bit! It helped to keep him busy so he had a few play dates with his buds. To those of you that knew about Daddy's situation, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. They meant so much to us! This experience has been a reminder that if you have your health, you have everything. Here's a few pictures; a couple from our time in MN
pre-surgery and a few of the boys from the last week.
Dad and daughters
pre-surgery. Cristie and I flew up in time to have a family day before the surgery. It was wonderful and I'm so glad we did it! We had the best time telling stories, laughing and eating some of Dad's favorite foods.
Mom and Dad
pre-surgery. So cute! Daddy is so handsome and looked great even after all of that time in the hospital. Nurses continued to comment on his tan which is rare in MN this early in the summer! Mom is so pretty too and still looked wonderful after so many sleepless nights. Much of the staff thought that Daddy had three daughters :)
Drew and David in their matching pj's that Drew picked out at
Wal-mart :)
Playing Bob the Builder.
Enjoying the pool.
Drew too!
Wagon ride with ice cream for Drew and a
teether for David. No signs of teeth yet but David likes the cold toys anyway.
